Any way of loading movie files as a texture?

Hi all,

I was looking for a way to load a movie file as a texture. I haven't been able to find anything in maya 5.0 that will do it. All I've found is to load a image sequence. That seems like a pain because maya can only take images sequences with the frame number at the end and all PC programs put the image format at the end.

For example after effects save targa sequence as, "image.1.tar" Maya only wants to adcept "image.tar.1"

Any have any suggestions?

Thanks for the help

you can use an avi for a texture by creating your material i.e lambert and then in the attribute editor for that material map the colour by clicking on the checkered box next to colour and choose the movie node instead of file and then browsing to your movie. However you will have to key the movie frame extention for you to be able to see the animation ( i.e. you will have to key which frame the movie starts at and which frame the movie stops at).

I believe Mike has a free video tutorial on his site for this exact thing at https://www.mtmckinley.net/
