This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Newbie in Maya

Hi im new in maya, and this probably is a stupid question but anyways..what is mental ray and raytracing? are they the same thing or different? im not sure...but can someone tell me that would be helpful. user added image

Mentalray is the third party (not made by Autodesk) renderer that has come with Maya since version 5.

Raytracing is a method of producing reflections, refractions and shadows in your rendered images.

Both Mentalray and the Maya Software Renderer can render with raytracing.
