Attaching nurbs question

I am taking a class on Maya and we are restricted to nurbs modeling for our first few exercises. I have ran into a problem. Is there anyway for two nurbs objects "attached" to be moved as one object? Or even better , have Maya recognize it as one object?

I mirrored half of a simple face I was working on but when the two are attached and I'm in object mode, I can only move half of the face. It just stretches along the attached point, leaving the other half just setting there.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
