Hi guys here's one more: how can i cut the cylinder thru the red plane or surface?

Why not simply move the bottom vertices up, via an "axis-snap-move" (axis-constrained-move)?

Unless you want the bottom part as well.

Select all the edges of the length of the cylinder (not the caps), Edit Polygons > Subdivide. Select the new ring of vertices, move them down to the face's level. Split poly around the new vertices. Delete unwanted faces.

Or, just move the bottom row up. user added image

Well, you could combine the 2 objects and use a boolean ?
