Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

HELP! Self-taught 3d hiccups....

hey guys/gals

self-teaching 3d here! (yep, it IS hard but fun!)

I have a book of tutorials which is really great but is for Maya 4 complete, and i have maya 4 unlimited.
this is cool until they start running mel scripts to emulate the subdivs i have already on unlimited. user added image
i haven't run the mel script, and it says i can us subdivs in poly mode but we are modelling an alien head, creating the eye sockets. What i am worried about is that their eye socket seems to have duplicated, whereas I am taking the approach of modelling half the head, then I intend to mirror it.
Will this work? Am I "thinking" in the right direction?

Also, can anyone give me some easy instructions on how to use/import a bitmap image to model from? (my book is ok but they supply all the images!) Tried to import>image etc but didn't work well with more than one image and am trying to model a car.....

cheers
natz

Hi Natz
Thanks for posting!

I believe you´re talking about reference images? as in modelling aides right? if so, there´s an excellent tutorial on how to set image planes for reference in the Free Tutorials section of the site. Be sure to give a try.

As per the subD´s question I´ll leave it to the gurus around here, since I don´t understand very well the question.

Regards ...

talking about the image planes.. I noticed something strange.. I opened a recent project I was doing and when I moved around in persp... the image planes dissappeared while me moving around... and when I try to move/edit something, the image planes get all fuzzy...

any ideas of how to get it back to normal?
