loft + dirtmap test

i had an old loft scene that i did in october to try out the dirt map shader. i think it does an excellent job of adding to images.

i want to know if you guys are just as impressed as i am.

on a realism scale from 1 - 10(real)??

i just noticed a few of my wings were not rendered because they were in either nurbs or subd which is easily fixable

I don't know that it looks like dirt, but it does create a nice old time photo grainy look.

that could be caused by my settings for the dirtmap
i just left them stock

but the amazing thing with these is that there are no lights in thoes renders, not even the default light, everything is turned off.

it gathers light info based on the objects with the shader on them.

The dirtmap shader is a great SSS fake. With some tweaks you can make the grain a lot less subtle. Looking good though.

yeah, It's the ambient occlusion, fake GI tool. I've been out of it tonight. I was thinking about photon mapping at the time :S Just to clear up for everyone else.

"Subsurface Scattering

All non-metallic materials are translucent to some degree. This means that light scatters inside the material before being either absorbed or leaving the material at a different location. This phenomenon is called subsurface scattering. "

so, it's the scattering effect you'd see in marble, or with skin... *crawls off to sleep*
