Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Jan/Feb - Norm - DJbLAZER

Never been in a competition before, so now's the first time. Took me AGES to come up with an animal that wasn't already chosen (and didn't have fur...), but finally: a turtle. Green Sea Turtle. And I'll probably render it with Turtle too user added image

hehe.. I actually thought about that that turtle looked like the ones in Nemo... I guess it's the same.

Good animal to model, it'll be nice to see you texturing it user added image

If you can't get any good orthographic style pics then search around for pics on the skull. They would help because most of the head mass is the actual skull (unlike for example most mammals)

Didn't find any skulls in orthogonal view, so I started without them. This is one hour's work, still look kinda like a frog... think it's seomthing with the eyes, and the mouth. The mouth will look better after texturing I think though, since they have sort of a under lip/chin that's painted only.

The shape is now pretty good I think, not any major thing to model more I think.. I'll probably do some of the neck and the beginning of the shell also.

Ok, I think I'm done with modelling, I don't think I can get it any better. Might tweak it a little later if some things get obvious after texturing has begun.

So next on the schedule is UV-mapping.
