Default Attaching NURBS

So, Im trrying to make a keyboard, and Im not having too much luck. Trying to keep it NURBS, building from curves. I have the curves layed out, but Maya wont let me attach a trimmed surface to anything. Any ideas here, guys?

Try creating your top surface then use what you have there to boolean the openings. Then add a round fillet.
