hey pixelsoul,
i couldn't find any specific tutorials but you'll want to look at blendshapes. However, you night have to blend in two steps, first, would be to the flat bottom "submerged" in the sphere and then the second blendshape for the change from the smal flat area to the larger one.

this might get you up a little on blendshapes

here pixel i made this the three steps you proboably need to follow:
1)make the semi circle and then move the row of vertex in red down into the sphere and move the row of yellow down a little to create a smoother transition. Then you'd have to blendshape between those two pieces.
(you'll also notice i've scaled the second row of vertex out which creates the more defined bottom of the flat bit
2) Then its a matter of duplicating the object on the top righ and scaling all the vertex on the bttom to the width you want.
after that you just have to key a layer change to transistion between the top right and left in the middle row

this is kind of harder to answer,
you need to display the time slider then click on frame 1, key the blendshapes
then move on to frame 8 and key the blendshape to 1
then repeat this for the other shape but you have to key that start of the second one with the end of the first one
