UV Mapping a elongated cube

Question: I made a polygonal cube which I stretched out into a rectangular box Anyway, I want to have the uv map file not distort the shapes of the planes that make up the polygon. I've tried messing with the options in the Automatic Mapping, but it always shows up as 6 square faces (instead of rectangular faces). How can I prevent this distortion.

Thanks,
Stu

in the UV texture window you can right click(and hold) then select UV's after that you can use the move tools and scale tools to make the UVs look like the rectangle shape you want. Also if you want to combine them together so that no seems are visible you can select the edge of one of the side and it will change to an orangish color and the edge that it coresponds with will also change. You can then get the uvs close to each other then go to Polygons Sew UVs.

ok..cool..thanks. This seems like a lot of unnecessary work though. Especially because when all the faces are squares you can't tell which belongs to which or in what direction it faces (unless you put a temporary texture on to help identify).
