Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Vacuum Guy

Hello everyone,

This is a project that I started working on a couple of days ago. He is going to be a low poly model for a possible short animation.

I am planning on building a basic model first and then a second model with him wearing all of his gear.

Thanks Jay. user added image

I'm not sure about posting these drawings in the concept section, as I don't want to crowd it with my crap that I have already posted here. I may post something else though in the next couple of days.

cheers.

nice concepts and start to the modelling arran user added image

is the thing on his back lightweight? otherwise he'd be constantly leaning forward to counter the balance.

yeah - good point t1ck.user added image

In some of my other drawings the vacuum is higher on his back and he is leaning forward. I am planning on modelling him standing up straight and then posing him in a more balanced pose.

Cool Concept, i'm a huge fan of overly chunky designs. One question though, what's going on with his right leg, at first i thought he was only going to have one 'chunky' leg but in the concept he has two...either way i like the design and keeping one leg a moderate size adds more to the character i think

Thanks Rostoons - chunky is the way to go!

Actually he is going to have two chunky legs - I am going to model him without his boots, gloves and vacuum first and then I am going to model another version of him wearing all of his kit - I was just trying to show him both with his boot and without in that shot.

I do like the idea of an uneven / lopsided character though...

Here is a small update - I have been laying out the basic figure and trying to join everything together. Not too happy with the flow of the geometry at the moment, especially in the arm and shoulder area, but I figured I would just get him put together and then re-draw the dodgy areas. His head is also looking a little bit big and as you can see, he has a bit of a Van Gogh thing going on with his ear at the moment.:p
