mental ray......... Help..

Hello everyone!!
I was browsing the net,.. reading tutorials such as Mental Ray Final Gathering, and while reading and trying to make something of it, I found out that I don't have a 'mental ray' and 'Photon Attributes' tabs under my blinn material..... the one on the picture..

...please tell me what should i do about it,.. is it free?.. can I download it somewhere?.. is it a plug-in?,. (if it is,.. I can't find it on Alias website user added image )

If you're using 4.0...you're out of luck. If you're using 4.5, you have to download mentalray 1.5.1 from alias' site (not sure if they still offer it). If you're using 5.0, the integrated version of mentalray comes with it and is on the install CD. Just install it and make sure all related plugins are enabled in the plugin manager.

i enabled that before,... but i still don't have mental ray as a tab.. .. user added image

Did you choose mental ray from Render Globals?

He doesn't have to. The attributes in his screenshot above should show up even with the default maya renderer enabled.

...still...,.. and since i enabled my mental ray plug-in in plugin's menages,... i cant render in mental ray,... it just gives me a blank space, or the render i did before in regular Software render,...

the last post I dont' understand. From what I can see though your first problem is you cant find matiral atributes on the roll outs of the shader. I do remember when looking at some tutorials that you need to add a line or to of something in the prefrences FILE. Perhaps the tutorial you were falowing was incompleat.

for MR not rendering at all ? I don't think its a problem with MR. Its in a setting somewhare perhaps for the sean your working with that the tutorial changed.

Perhaps your best bet is to email the person that wrote that tutorial for help. They would know the most of what is going on.
