Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Thank you Aiko. The eyelashes are actually modeled. There was an old thread from Jay, must have been a couple of years ago...that included a link to a tutorial on how to do it. It basically consists of creating a curve and then duplicating a poly shaped into an eyelash along that curve. There was a small MEL macro that did the duplication for you modifying slightly the rotation values...In any case, I did end up tweaking pretty much everyone of those eylashes, but its surprising quick to do so. Plus, you only need to do one side, duplicate to the other side and do some minor adjustments to avoid mirror images.

the ears look a bit big for the head, i dont know if its illusion or not. but with the other images i dont have that feeling.

Yeah, i ended up inserting a couple more loops around the eyes to avoid the stretching, especially around the eyebrows, and it worked.

Hi All,

I did tons of more tweaks to the model itself, particularly the eyes. And got tired of it so I moved back on to the hair. I did a lot of experimenting on layers and ended up using fur attached to dynamic hair rendered in maya software and composited over the FG version using mental ray of the rest of the objects. I need to tweak the hair quite a bit, but at least I finally found a process of creating hair that looks nice and is very quick. The compositing was done in photoshop using alpha channels I created in Maya.

How old is this baby? I understand the hair will go through the paces as you tweak it- in its current form with this hair its more of a child, wouldn't you say?

yep, its a child, its suppossed to be a 5-6 year old. I keep tweaking the hair but I can't get the right look yet. I'll keep updating the picture above with my latest iterations. I like to post them there and look it over at work. Its nice to sleep over it and take a fresh look at it the next day.

Hi All, here is another attempt at the hair. I am going to add another hair system to add some banks.

Hi All, I added another hair system at the front and tweaked the existing one. Its looking a bit wet in my opinion, not what I wanted but getting there.

Yeah, it's a little on the wet side, You should probably fiddle with the specular settings until you get a more matte look. Since the second to last one I think you just need some bangs and it would look great. This last one looks almost painted on in photoshop. Just more tweaking and I'm sure it'll turn out real nice.

btw, the eyes look much better now.

Hey Funky, thanks for the comments. I messed with it some more and realized that the alpha maps I was using had some unwanted transparency and corrected it. I think I got the hair to look more normal instead of wet...I'll work on the bangs once again when i get back from xmas vacation.
