If you are trying to save polycount on render-time by using lower segment vals, don't you run into issues with UV mapping and any other history? It seemed like that was a proposed benefit of using bevel with history on, but it sounds dangerous.

thanks Rick, very interesting stuff, always liked the bevel option, but didn't realize object was lighter [vs smooth ] as a result, cheers...
