Cool almost to the point where I usually get stuck for a couple days because I want to just drag it around within the UI making BUZZZZZZZZ, ZOOMMMMMMM, and WOOOOSSSSSSH sounds. lol

Ahh jeez, yeah I just followed the link, that is unfortunate, its a shame all those people were hurt, and the 3 that were killed - not good.

The planes put on show are so old, despite probably being maintained well and parts updated, but again they are old and they can only take so much, I believe the pilot was in his 70s too, and he races these things too. They dont know what caused the crash as yet but you never know he may have had a heart attack while flying, and its not actually be a mechanical fault.

anyway update later ( on the model)

I am less concerned about the age of the airplanes as those planes are probably maintained and in better shape then they were during the war. For all the race versions much of the original air frame has been replaced or rebuilt in most cases any way.

What I am more concerned about is that it is perhaps not the best idea to have 74 year old pilots flying highly modified aircraft at speed in excess of 500 mph at 30 feet above the ground and pulling significant g's in the turns!

I have gone to several reno air races and in the final heats the aircraft regularly have a climb to avoid running into power lines about 25 feet above the ground and go well inside the 500 feet buffer required by the FAA between the planes and people on the ground. Also, that 500 feet buffer is questionable when aircraft are moving in excess of 730 ft per second!

EDIT: All indications so far are pointing to a mechanical failure but I still wonder if it is wise to have people of such advanced age piloting these kinds of planes. It is much easier to keep a plane in like new condition for 70 years then a human.

Okay, Bit of an update, am doing the frame work around the cockpit. In separate bits like the real deal.....much easier than trying to do it in one and making a mess.

cheers

Looking good Jay...I remember doing the Spitfire frame oohhh about 10 times!!! LOL...not as easy as it looks. You have to hand it to the chaps that did all this with just a pencil and rule...no CAD back then...

Hey Bullet, Cheers

Yeah but I wish they'd have stuck to one design LOL. the front part of the canopy is either rounded between the glass or flat. No one of these is consistent in all the refs I have LOL - only the color LOL - Silver!!

cheers

Update....

Well after the fantastic time I had on the Alien Modelling, Texturing and Rigging series, its now time to get back to my personal stuff.

Finished the exterior cockpit framework for now, may add a rear view mirror toward the end of the modelling. I'm head off to the propeller now then going to work back toward the exhausts then wings and so on....

Have put in a tail plane block for now too

cheers
Jay
