Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Fluid dynamic issue

Hi guys,

I have a weird problem, indeed I have a 3d container with an emitter and all following a motion path.
The issue is that at the end of the curve (path), the emitter becomes upside down without apparent reason. It means that the emitter axis turn 180 degrees...
For info, I have autoresize enable for the fluid container, but it seems something else is interacting with the emitter position...

Does anyone have already encountered such odd behavior?

Thx
Regis

Hi again,

I found out a work around, here is my solution, in the motion path attributes, I just keyframed the World Up Vector in the x position from 1 to -1 when the problem was occuring.
Therefore it works.

Hi there,

I though it could be interesting for anyone occuring such issue. The solution I posted was temporary.
Indeed, to avoid any problem with a fluid following a path is not to attached straight away the emitter to the motion path, but to create a dummy object as a kind of guide (such cube, sphere or whatever), attach it to the path and create a parent constraint between the the dummy object and the emitter.

Hope this could help anybody.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Your very welcome, it's my pleasure if it can help.
I forgot to had that is when fluid is used in auto resize mode (to emulate a fire tail for example), if not of course you could attach directly a fluid 3d container to a motion path without further problem.

Hi Sircharles,

Here is the link of a version of the project I'm currently working on, showing and illustrating the point of a kind of cartoonish tail effect made with fluids.
Well let's say many things are made with fluids ;o)

Hope you like it.

Hi,

Thank you. It was a personal project when I was in school... Inthen modified totally the look of the tail by something say more realistic fire (more or less).
