Rigging a monitor(cube like stuffs)

Hi,

I just finished modeling and imac and i need to animate it to take steps(from side to side), but am stuck with rigging. Have tried parenting the imac to some controls it didn't work. Please if you have any steps i can take or tutorials that could help i will be grateful. I use maya, i also attached some images of the kind of steps am talking about.

if you don't want the imac to distort then i'd recommend just animating the translate and rotate values of the model itself.

you don't necessarily need a rig to animate... just write down the rotate values after you get the positions you want so you can get somewhere in the vicinity the next time
