Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Images in Maya

Hi

I am currently having problems with importing images into the maya to work from.

the problem is that the images are shown as blacked out in most of the views but appear correctly when rendering.

this makes it hard for me to design in side views etc.

I am currently trying to make the red rocket in the understanding maya book and am unable to do this.

The images are straight out of the scene folders on the dvd so i know they are in the correct format and maya has been put back into default settings so i dont think anything is turned off?

Any ideas?

thanks

are you importing the images to an image plane on the camera or on to a manually created plane in the scene ?

have you tried creating a polygon plane manually and adding the image to that as a material ?

Someone else recently had this problem (WHICH IS SOLVED! Yay me)

His was a lighting problem, hed seleted use no lights, insted of default, it might not be this, but its worth a try

is hardware texturing turned on?

it could be all manor of things, if this doesnt work post the scene and ill take a look

Thanks, i'll post the scene when i can, i'm pretty sure that the lighting is at default and everything else is as it should be..? - if i import the image in to perspective then it will be black but if i hit spacebar to see all four views it will be correct in the others, but still black in perspective.

I did try another tutorial where i pasted an image to a poly plane and it works until i manipulate the plane and it will go to black again?

Everything else i do in maya seems spot on at the moment.

I'll have a look, thanks.

Stu

ok just out of interest, what format are the images?
If they are tiff then try converting to jpg as there are some compression issues with tiff at times in Maya.
This could also be a graphics driver issue.
