Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

one way would be to snap the verts from the end of the arm to the verts on the torso.

using the move tool hold v to snap to a vert.

Then you can combine the both polies into the same unit using polygon>Combine, then merg points, make sure your merge point setting is higher than 0.0000 or nothing will happen. (i reccoment 0.001)

Thanks, but I'm looking for the most efficient method of doing this.

As you can see the arm has 8 edges at the border.
The torso has one split down the side. I'm wondering how I can I do this without over complicating it.

I believe the easiest way would be when you create the shapes initially, use the same parametrization, and then attach the shapes before you go into more detailed splits.

The most effeciant way would be to add more verts to your torso using the split poly tool around where you want to join the arm and torso.

As Dann said i agree. If you like to keep the 3-4 sided geometry, split the face to the correct number of verts, then split into the torso engles so you dont end up with random 5+ sided angles.
