Sorry yeah i have a plane (poly) now i go to fur and asign the grass in the fur icons to the plane now if i render in maya software it renders the colours of the grass but using MR it only renders very sparce and there is no colour.

I think you might have to convert the grass to polys then render it for it to work

no i dont think so (do check the manual though to see if there is anything in there about it). I think it's because it's fur you wil need to play with the fur shader settings (I've never used fur so I'm not sure how to do it) but what's probably happening is that MR is bleaching out the colour of the fur. I'm assuming you have final gather etc. turned on? If so try turning that off and just having one point light or spotlight illuminating the scene and see if it renders properly then.

fur is a pain, but i dont think you can render it in mental ray u have to use maya software or thats the only way i can get it to work, wheever i try make fur it disappears when i smooth anything, its usless and really disappionting cos it looks so cool but causes so much hassel.
