Personally i would use mental ray, make sure you have raytracing on. Add a HDR image to get some real world reflection in your ring. Thats what will make it look real. Also turn on FG, to get some nice even lighting..

There's nothing normal about normals. In FACT i think the are abnormal.

if you could start from the material that i must assign to the object and then tell me how modify the principal parameter to obtain trasparency and light reflex, you'll be very nice.
to give you the idea of my problem i add on the forum the image of the modelled ring and
its render that must be improved.

thank you for your time
and all critics are accepted.

Hi there.
Ive worked on a ring simalar to yours. I didnt really spend to much detail in modeling it, i was more concerned with the render. Cause thats what you where after right.
Well, ive put together some differnt types of renders, with the render type on top.
Its pretty complex to try and tell you how to do these renders but easyier if i just sent you the maya files, and you pick through it yourself and work out whats going on.
hmm
hope your still around, lol, havent heard from you.

Heres one, this is the file that renders the top left ring. the FG,Caustics render.

The render time is about half hour, depending on your machine.

if you want the other files, let me know i will upload them.
