Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Hello,

I am having a problem deleting a face. When I delete the face there is an edge left over which I cannot delete. It says below that I cannot delete a border but I don't understand what that implies to. If anyone have can help.

first off.. go to Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences
and find Polygons under Display on the left.
tick the checkbox 'border edges' and set the edge with to something like 4.0
this way you'll know the difference between an edge and a border edge. (i think it should just be on by default)

border edges are edges that are only on one face ( an edge is just a line and non-border edges have a face on either side of it)

now back to your problem...

it could be that the verts on a face are not quite seperated from each other so all you see is just an edge
in that case switch to face selection mode and (assuming you have 'whole face' selected in polygon selection under selection in the preferences window you have open) just marquee drag (click and drag so that selection rectangle is there) over the edge and then hit delete

if taht doesn't work then you've done something funny! so possibly try drag over a larger region of faces delete them and fill in the faces that you delete that you didn't want to delete with the append polygon tool

if that doesn't work then start again

I have had this problem before. What I did was extrude the edge that cannot be deleted and then delete the new face and the edge should be able to be deleted. Hope it works for ya. Good luck!

it is border edge, which u can not delete. wht u have to do is move it to the closer loop/segment and merge the vertices with other segments' vertices and then again extrude it to desired length. now u'll be able to delete it. the basic concept is to merge the border edge to another edge

So. It was an invisible face.. which all I had to do was delete that face then move the edge over to see the invisible face and deleting that, everything was solved.

Thanks guys for your help.
