Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

I guess you guys haven't seen this in a while..
I acquired this tutorial of Jason's from someone that gave up on modeling it.
So if it was illegal for me to buy it second hand, shoot me now..
But please don't..

I've been working on it for some time and was wondering if legs were done before.

This is a first stab at trying to texture everything in total,
So it's been a struggle..

I was wondering if you could use the legs as flaps? ..

Jason, you are one twisted artist!!
This model has been a boat load of fun to work on!!!

If anyone has any ideas on landing gear, I'd appreciate it.

Its Okay I wont shoot you, if you aquired it nuff said.

Glad you like it. With regard to landing gear, if you wanna be convincing look up real world stuff, helicopter skids, aircraft landing gear and even snow mobils may be a good place to look too.

Great idea on the feet/legs, could do with a bit more light on them to see them as they look very dark.

Cheers
Jay

Thanks, I'm still trying to figure out the texture settings.
These legs were based on a pair I found somewhere.
I twisted them all about and then rebuilt everything.

I made use of the sci-fi gun, and got those in there too, inside the legs.

I was thinking about a snowmobile type ski, but wanted t stay clear of an obvious helio skid. This type might double as flaps. hehe cough Lot of fun this Tutorial Jay

Nice ob on the textures, Is a little dark, but i like it all in all, Wouldn't mind seeing the actual texture you painted for it? just for the giggles of it.

The landing gear are nice, They put me in the mind of The landing gear from the Terminator HK as seen in T-2 ( They were designed subtlety different in all movies that they were shown in , )

I'm not very good at the texture thing, but in the body for example. I painted in and layered different textured in photoshop.
In this example the body is shown in shadermap pro.
I like this program for auto generating your different maps.
The background is the displacement map.
I just recently figured out how to combine this map with a displacement map exported from zbrush.

You make a copy of your body and obj it to zbrush, and sculpt the body. Then export a displacement map.

This is my first test with zbrush displacement map.
It's a bit exaggerated to show the effect of the displacement.
And rendered in TG2

Yet another example and test scene.
The front of the Flash type rocked, that I've been playing with has a zbrush starburst on the front.
displaced in zbrush.

I know the contrails are out, it is a test.

Just a follow up wip here because I made use of Jay's engine..
I started the Firefly tutorial and finished the engine and had intended to put it on this Pod Racer but felt it was a bit to sleek and really needed more of this design..

Meanwhile I threw the firefly tutorial i the damn Non-Planar garbage can!! As I'm not good enough to pull that off.. Never bend a poly! user added image Anyway, still a wip.
