[FIXED] Mental Ray render issue

I'm helping a friend of mine with an issue she has with mental ray in Maya 2015.

When she's trying to render she gets the error "// Warning: (Mayatomr.Scene) : output data type "rgba_h" not directly supported by image format iff, conversion performed by mental ray"

We looked a bit a found something about the framebuffer but that changed nothing. We also tried uninstalling Maya 2015 and reinstalling it.

She's working on her demo and it's getting urgent.

This is due to the fact that maya's default settings for Mental Ray are 16bit which is not supported by the IFF file formate. Just change the file formate to an (EXR,TIF,or any format that supports 16bit) or you can change the formate to a 8bit RGBA.

So the solution is to select 'TIFF' or 'OpenEXR' from the "Image format" drop down menu in render globals

When she gets back from school I will do another screenshot, but last time we did that it did nothing.

Will get you back on that.

So she tried changing to tiff but she gets this error:

// Warning: (Mayatomr.Scene) : output data type "rgba_h" not directly supported by image format tif, conversion performed by mental ray

BUT now she discovered that it renders only what she selects:

these are my settings, if these dont work for you try moving your user preferences out of the way (back them up) and let maya generate some new ones, then give it a go.

Normally settings are in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\maya

just rename the 2016 folder to 2016_OLD or whatever and relaunch maya.

1. It's not an error, it doesn't stop anything even it's a bit annoying to keep looking at. But it's still better to specify. If you're going to use tif as a file type, then the 'short' and 'byte' data types can apply. If you need higher color range, then you can switch the file type to the commonly used 'exr' and the data type to rgba float or half.

2.In the Render View window, go Render>Render Selected Objects Only and uncheck it.

THANK YOU

Thank you guys! It worked! We first tried Gen's solution and it worked. She doesn't know how or why this was checked but now it's fixed and that's all that matters. Thank you very much, this bugged her for weeks and she's doing her demo.
