render settings from maya 2008 to 2010

Has anybody out there any idea how you can get good detailed information to explain the differences and the vastly changed layout of the render settings between the systems 'Maya 2008 and 2010'? Because to be honest, it is very, very confusing...

what exactly is confusing you ? i take it you are talking about Mental ray since the software render settings havent changed that much.
From Maya 2009 onward the Mental Ray render settings added the passes tab which should not be confused with the old render layers in Maya and is a new feature to be able to render out many different types of passes at the same time in a single render using specific Mental ray shaders , all the other tabs include features that where in Maya 2008 but they grouped simular features under new tabs ...ie indirect lighting tab has the Final Gather and Global Ilumination and caustics and also IBL.
the Quality tab speaks for itself and features anti alias settings for image quality and ray trace settings for shadows ect.

The menus have changed a bit i.e being split down into sections rarther than one large long menu. Other than that theres not much thats changed really.

In Maya 2008 you have the option of the presets to choose which type of render you want to achieve, for example; shadow, AmbOcc, etc.... In 2010, I can not find the presets. I have found a list that has given numerous options such as shadow, raw shadow, etc, but it does not seem to be giving me the results I am looking for even though I have exactly the same objects added to the render layer in 2008 and 2010.
