Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Excellent gster123, thanks for the tip! I'll give it a go next render! I've done some more tweaking and added some more plants (trying to get some variety in there) but it still needs work doing to it, just going to keep going til the last minute or til me Pc gives up!

have you done something with the footpath? the lines look more... more <missing adjective>

Not done anything to the pavement Chirone, it's the change in the angle of the light, it's brought out the texture more, not sure if I'll stick with it hitting the front of the building or coming from the back, we'll see! have switched it back to cloudless for now as I've not found a good enough one with them yet,another thing to add to the list....

Too true Chirone, even when I find a good image with nice looking clouds they just don't seem to fit somehow, or they just look different in the rendered view! Here's another angle with the extra plants,probably won't keep the "For sale" sign though...

Look in the fluid effects in the visor, load, adjust, render and use as a card in the background or in a comp.

P.S. Did you get the right click going?

Thanks gster123, I did get the right click going and it is much easier than typing everything in each time! Cheers! I'll have a look in the Visor for the clouds thing, thanks, what do you mean by use as a card though?

Just simply load it onto a plane with transparancy had have it in the background (like in old movies where they would have the matte painting or a "card" to make it look like the sets extended, in Cg it helps to "sell" detail that might just be a drawing but fools you into thinking its modeled.

Excellent, I know what you mean, is it best to load the plane in the persp. view? And once you've done that if you pan or zoom the camera does it stay the same size i take it?

Yes, position it so it looks right with the final camera angle, then as you move in (if you are doing) it will change size

Cheers for the info, one more thing though, it comes with it's own camera (billow cam or whatever) is it best to use that one or the persp camin your opinion?

Up to you mate. Use whatever to get the job done, think of the angle of the picture that your after and try to match the perspective of that.

The cameras in the examples are there to show em off, not be a rigid set angle.

Nice one, cheers for all the help! Have got one rendering at the moment and will post it with clouds included when it's done, will be a long time as I've got it set to only one processor so I can still use maya for other bits!

Thanks Pandinus, I'm trying my best! After this comp has finished I'm going to do another house, and take what I've learnt from this one and try to improve. I should have planned it out on paper first, it would have been easier to do in the long run. Anyhow, thanks for the comments!
