Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Operating System

If you had to choose, which OS would you go with for in stability and speed in 3d applications?

Windows 2000 Professional
or
Windows XP Professional?

Win2K... no need for XP if youre looking for speed and stability...

XP is 2K with fancy graphics (whitch causes slower performance) so that's why you want 2K

Yea, I agree with Emo. XP is nothing but 2K with "prettier" graphics.

That would explain the worthless post of the day thing.

I will wait a bit though, I have faith in you guys. I know we can manage to let this one die out, without it converting itself into an F5. user added image

Windows XP Pro.

First off it updates itself on your system.. i realise this isnt 100% hackproof.. so i still go to microsoft.com to get my stuff.. but its convenient. Also, the pretty graphics can be disabled and if you have a fast system built for 3d.. lets face it.. heh.. the graphics for the layout dont make a shit of a difference. Its the newest OS so there releasing updates for it over anything else. Its userfriendly for the beginner users as well (im thinking on a overall picture here). I also feel the code is quite cleaner in XP and therefore is quite fast. Cya.

xp

I can say that xp isnt very good. I am having unusual issues with xp that should just never happen. I cant play quicktime movies, even though i have qt installed. No error message pops up. Task manager opens for 3 seconds and dissapears. Thats no good if I lock up maya when doing something with a hi polygon count. I was using 2k before..and I am going back to 2k. Maybe its my hardware..but 2k never gave me those #$@%*!! problems user added image

Yea, XP gave me some problems I didnt have with 2K. I had to go back to 2K as well. But as ADL and HAL said, these are all opinions, so no need to get fired up about it. user added image

Lol, i was having problems like crazy with 2k. XP seems to be fine. Unless those few errors i am having is because of XP and not because of my GFX card :O. Heheh.

Win 2k is very stable. However i do like some things about XP. They are even in my book.

PS: Win 2k was all fine and dandy... Then, I got new ram, had the refresh rate pushed up to high. Made my video drive go all out of wack and Win 2k stopped allowing me to open any executables. Had to reinstall windows, and back of my RAM.
