Cursor on Icon help box?

Ok I have no idea what this is called, but you know how you put your cursor over an object or tab in maya and it tells you what that button is? For example, pretend i put my cursor on the move tool, a box appears and says "move tool" or how we put our cursor on an icon for component mode and it says "component mode". I don't see that no more and was wondering how I would reactivate this?

they're called tooltips, and you can toggle them on or off under window->settings/preferences->preferences, then under the help window (under interface) it's the first option (called popup help)

put a check the tooltips options box, then underneath set how long it displays the tooltip... default i believe is 4 seconds...
