Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Hypergraph cleaning script

I am trying to optimize my scene which is almost 2m in polygons. Normally it shouldnt be hard to work with this scene with the PC am using. But suddenly the scene got so slow. I did the optimize option, clenaed the outliner, cleaned the hypeshade. But still the scene is so slow. When i select every object in mey scene there are some stuff left unselected in hypergraph. How can i delete this? I heard there was a script , but i cant find it on google. And if i delete these, will it help making the scene lighter?

When you say slow, what do you mean exactly? Like manipulating the camera has become sluggish, load times, what?

There is a script that you can use in the hypergraph to disable the rendering of the thumbnails. It is this. The rendering of these thumbnails is heavier than you would imagine. Especially if you have large texture maps.

Code:
// Turns off thumbnail updates.
renderThumbnailUpdate false;

There is the "File>Optimize Scene Size" which if you open the option box shows all the things it cleans up saves me typing it all out for you - it says its undoable but ctrl Z works all the time. This sorts out my outliner all the time for me.

Note that optimize scene size is a bit... Umm... Dumb... It can destroy your scene, so make sure to make a copy before you run it.

It usually screws up with rigs and constraints.
