Smoothing lightwave setting

I have come over from lightwave in there they had a setting called smoothing this would smooth out the edges on hard edge meshes has maya got a setting for this? dave

Yeah, I think there's mesh > smooth or something, then there's pressing 3 for smooth mesh preview, then I think soften normals might help, so quite a few options. Maybe others can be more precise and explanatory if those aren't what you're looking for.

pressing 3 takes the mesh in subpatch mode were can you fine soften normals in maya..............thanks again dave

Hi Dave,

To soften the edges of the whole object, it's under- Polygon menu set - Normals - Soften edge.

To soften just selected edges, go into edge mode, select the edges you want to soften and holding down shift, press and hold right mouse button to bring up a menu that contains the soften/harden edge commands, hover over and then select Soften edges.
