Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Egyptian Lamp (chain problem)

Hello everyone,

To complete a current project, I'm modeling this Egyptian Lamp

Note the chain which extends from the handle to the tip of the cap. I'm confused as to how to properly duplicte the chain's rest position.

I've already modeled the chain via Polys to Sub'd. But should I:

- rig & skin the chain & then just manually tweak the the joints to represent the rest position (somewhat inaccurate)

or

-I can do a simulation with a curve that is converted to a softbody & made into a spring, then attach gravity, (tweak dampning) let it simulate, then set initial state. This give a accurate rest position, but I don't know how to attach my geometry to the curve to emulate the curve's simulation.

or

-are both my options inefficent? user added image

Thanks
Fess
