texturing edge of guitar

hi all, i am trying to texture a poly model of a les paul guitar. it is mailny black but has a striped border all around the outside edge. does anyone know the best way to go about texturing this accurately. thanks

You need to UV map it, then its a simple photoshop paint.

thanks for the reply, gster123. i realised i need to uv mpa, but my point was how do i keep the lines parralel with the egde - i think i figured it out by using the magic wand in photoshop to select the to get the outline, then using the stroke command to get smooth lines that follow the edge of the uv map
