New Tutorial WIP Spach-Alspaugh

This once will replace the old Victorian House - Beginner Modeling tutorial we have here on the site. Below is a simple AO render of the model with reference.

Will be out tomorrow. Texturing and environment up next.

Preaching to the choir Dave lol. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Lovely Tut there! Looks well detailed, I recently saw the plans online as scans and lo and behold, it's appeared as a SM model. user added image

I know this is going to sound waaaay picky, but something bothered me about the render as soon as I saw it...The render infill panels between the oak framing would not in real life be recessed...we'll they shouldn't. This would result in standing water / water ingress and cause wood rot. yes, yes,...I know it's a tutorial but as a chartered architectural technologist it jumped out at me...Drop a google man on the main high street in Tewkesbury and you'll see how they did it of old.

Sorry, I'm the kind of guy who rewinds videos to point out continuity errors to his wife! user added image sad...sad...

LOL I bet you're fun at parties user added image

You're quite right the beams would be inline with the render, however i took certain liberties to better show of the modeling detail. In volume two the texture and lighting I'll simply move the beams back a couple of cm.

Glad you liked the model, been a while since i've seen you post here as well. Welcome back.

will there be any use of vray in the rendering again Dave, similar to the recent interior modelling tut?

above renders look great.

im surprised by the 'rational' use of the sp paint script, if its the same as the one ive used before, i thought it was used for fairly 'uncontrollably' placing items like rocks and grass.

sppaint is good for 'rational' placement as well, although i mostly use if for plonking down a bunches of instanced trees, bushes, rocks and that sort of thing.

Mental ray will be up first, vray I'm not sure I might if i get the time user added image

Glad you liked the renders
