I'm running Maya 2008 at the moment. I have no idea why this is happening. Very nasty for a beginner like me user added image Well... I will try it out anyway..

does it do the same thing if you smooth the model?

I tried to make a cylindrical projection again and now it seems a lot better. Don't know whats going on user added image But now I have a problem with 2 edges. The get stretched and look now very good. Take a look:

Select the bounding UVs for those two loops and scale them in the UV editor in Y apart or together to remove the stretching. It's just stretched in one dimension right?

EDIT: If that doesn't work, can you post a shot with the image turned on, dimmed, in the UV editor and select the UVs around where the problem is?
