Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

poly smooth

hi i was just loking at many of the polygon models people have done and wondered how they get their "things" to be so smooth without using millions of faces and vertesies? always when i do a poly model the faces alwas show in the render and i can never get a smooth surface even if i use the smooth poly.:headbang: is there another way to make polygons smooth or is there just another option in the poly smooth that i have over looked?user added image

All depends on your geometry, if it flows well then a simple poly smooth does the job fine.

You can convert it into sub d's, then alter the geometry from the sub d menu set to smooth out any problem areas then go back to polys (if you want) then smooth and render.

Or the alt is to go Nurbs all the way!

the reason you're having this problem has nothing to do with polygons. Once you have a model, right click-drag and select Faces mode. select the faces you want to look smooth. Then go to Edit Polygons> normals>soften/harden and select the options box. then drag the slider all the way to AllSoft. Apply, and view the changes.

yeah that helped very well ryuu1988 looks much better now thanks user added image

After this though i might just try out making a model in Nurbs as it is easier for smooth objects i think, thanks for the sugestion gster123 user added image
