Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

i've started one of the books to go on the desk but i don't think i like it so i might start it again depending on how long the rest of the scene takes.

This is what I’ve managed to do so far. Any criticism would be helpful.

Ok I’ve finished modelling for the night and have just finished modelling the gas lamp for the wall and a pen and inkbottle. Any criticism of the model would help.

Oh looking great! One thing though.. what does this mean in japanese:

Desan hofukeku

Just curious. But yea, for the book you maybe would like to try a leather texture or something for the brown part... Ok, cya.

The textures on the book are just to help me see different parts when modelling the final book will have a leather texture.

As for the Japanese, don't know I’ve only just started to learn it. The Japanese on the book is just a load of random letters, as I couldn’t think of a decent name so I put something nobody would understand but I’ll probably change it to some thing in English later.

Another small update. Think I’m going to have a break from modelling and start the lighting tonight.

looks like this is going to be one nice scene when you're done with texturing and lighting.

Check out the subsurfacescattering on my tongue...

Thanks, I haven't been able to do anymore today as I’ve been out but I’ll try do get another update for tomorrow.

Also does Maya have any sort of sky tracer like lightwave i could use to do the night sky outside.

I'm still not happy with the lighting and haven't modelled any more objects but i've started to put some textures on things.
