Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

in Movetool clicking between 2 Axes
it is for example possible to click between 2 Axes in the movetool, for example between x and y, so i could move the object or vertex ... in a xy plane ?
this was possible in Softimage and great for me.
