This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

meshes from mainstream companies

I bet this question gets posted a lot but has any company like EA or lucasfilms ever upload their models or rigs for people like me to play with?

Yeah, doubt it really.

You can sometines get "glimpses" to the workflows etc from articles, such as from the CG society or in 3d world.

IF you want to play with a really good rig, google "low man for maya" its very well set up with great controls.

If you have half life 2 and the SDK installed, you may be able to import the characters into Maya to play with...
