Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

2005 Ford Mustang GTR concept

So uh.. yeah the title says pretty much it. This will be my first car model ever. The only real way I learn is by throwing me into the deep end, so here I go.

I'm going to model it in polys since I'm most comfortable with them, perhaps use subD's as well. We'll see, I guess. Any suggestions at all?

watch out for reference differences. That is a heavily modified car from any reference pictures you have. You're really going to have to imagine how the pieces fit together, not just look at it. Going to have to use your imagination on this one, big time.

Good luck Neoarcadia, I think the deep end pretty much describes this one!! You're right though, sometimes it is the best way to learn. There is always all the help you need in the forum too!

Looking forward to seeing progress, all the best,

Mat

i would just model the normal version because of readily available blueprints and just add the gtr crap later, like the front diffuser, hood bulge and wing and all that.

that is already a 3d model in the picture?
i like doing real life cars rather than concepts in order to try and get them as close to real life as possible

btw, the gtr is the only true trim of the nissan skyline and ford is trying to rip it off. ford lives off of ripping off ideas, they even ripped off their own ideas from older years to produce the new mustang....kinda sad, but the car looks not too bad. i still think of ford as the darkside

I'm almost positive that is a real car as it was at SEMA this year.

Yeah, it's a real car.. I have quite a few other reference photos of it. I might try just modelling the original and adding to it, like Turbo Dan mentioned.

As far as being a rip off, besides it being called a GTR, I don't really see it...but rip off or no rip off, its a sexy beast. user added image
