New tutorial utilizing MEL

For those who want to dive in to the geeky world of MEL commands... For those who just want to take advantage of the finished scripts... I present you my first written tutorial: Modeling a wooden pier with the help of MEL and with minimal manual work.

It's on my site: https://kotisivu.mtv3.fi/karppa/

Without pulling a single vertex, here's the end result:

Thanks guys. Please report if you spot any spelling mistakes or even pure errors... or if you got stuck somewhere...

Hi Kari,

a real great tutorial... user added image

the thing I miss thou is which atributes that's got to get connected in the shaders... since I don't know that much about shaders yet... I just used the defaults, but that wouldn't let me change the Bump value which was locked at 0.500

other than that... a real terrific and understandable tutorial... user added image

Thanks! Glad you could follow it.

The connections are default ones for color and bump.
Just create a lambert shader and a wood texture. Then by MMB drag-dropping them on to each other do the default connections as shown in the tutorial. And yes the bump value wasn't the correct value to change. It's the bump depth... Thanks for spotting this for me user added image

Hmm... Here's a little homework for you: Create the shader via mel user added image

Here are the steps in english:
1. Create the lambert shader
2. Create a shading group for the shader
3. Create a wood texture
4. Create a place3dTexture
5. Scale it by a factor of 2
6. Rotate it 90 degs in y-axis
7. Create a bump3d node
8. Set it's bump depth to 0.25
9. Connect the place3dTexture to the texture
10. Connect the texture (alpha) to the bump
11. Connect the bump to the shader
12. Connect the texture (color) to the shader

Hint: Do it manually first and observe the script editor what is happening.

I'll give more hints if no one can do it. Pro's stay out of this :p
