maya fur problem

user added image

hi there all,

we are currently encountering a big problem in fur.
here's what happened, a fur description was attached to the model and was character rigged by the setup artist, after that the fur attachments multiplied and the fur render pic loks like a grass or some kind of a spiky object. then we detached the fur and attached a new one, the render pic now looks good but the behavior become very unpredictable, what did we missed ? or is our flow correct (modeling>texturing>character rigging) ?

any comments are highly appreciated.

thanks and GOD bless.
