This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
i don't know much about star wars paraphernalia, but i can say that the bump map you've applied detracts from the model... it looks like you put it in the dryer for a few cycles with a bag of rocks and let it tumble around for a week. even if it's a model, i'd assume it's made of either plastic or metal, and so would be smooth.
yeah - I definitely agree that the textures need a lot of work. At the moment they are really letting your model down. I would also lose the wooden stand - it just doesn't really go with the star wars model.
looks like you could use some UV mapping on the sides to eliminate the tiling you have in your texture... if your object is made up of multiple parts it's not too hard to do - planar mapping should do the trick.
