Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

I'm rather stupid, could you explain how you created the layered shader?

Sorry for not getting back sooner, been a tad busy.

You can build up quite complex shading networks with the layered shader. The eye I made utilises 4 ramps that make use of the blending modes, one ramp controls the viens, one for the overall eye colour, one for lines in the iris and one for an extra underlying noise within the irsis. I used the blending modes to dictate how they show through one another. I just experimented till I got I good understanding of how the structure works.

I should really go into more detail but I am excedingly tired, and it's my birthday, yey.

I may try and do a quick walkthrough of making one for my website when I get the time.

Texture is looking great man! He is looking quite ugly (not an insult, that golem thing is quite nasty) Can't wait to see a lil more colour in his face.

Very nice.

Do we lose points if what we model does not precisely resemble the films? A general questiuon as I hardly expect to gain any anyway user added image

Thanks guys!

Pony,
you're right about the colour, it's just a base at the moment. I know what you mean about the film though, there is no where near as much colour in him there, as there is in the pre production shots.

Witchy,
I know what you mean about resembling the character. Mine is way off from gollum, I've just got the book that Ice Queen recomended today and it has great references. So I'm now toying with the idea of remodelling him again. Mmmmm got to think about this user added image

Thanks again.
Chris

I think your Gollum is very 'Gollum' myself 8). I'd keep him if I were you, I think he's going really well.

I was just asking for clarification as people keep mentioning the movies but I didn't see anything that said we had to make the movie characters, not for a moment suggesting you should start again - as I said, I think your Gollum is Golluming along nicely.
