Maya 2008 Modeling Mode

Some of the video tuts says to be in modeling mode, however,
In my status bar is shows Polygon, Surface, Dynamics, etc.
How do I set the Setting Preferance windoow to show modeling model.

"Modeling" was later broken up into "Surfaces" and "Polygons", so unless you're going to create a custom menu set there is no "Modeling" menu.
