Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

no there will be no winner at the end of part 1. But it will be a showcase of all those that finish part 1. That's all. user added image

Will the next part have a new theme or will it be a different "challenge" (Like texturing for example.)

Edit: Who won the previous challange by the way? user added image

zBrush has the advantage of changing between division levels, will sculpt at any division level, and show the effects when you change between division levels.

I tried to get clever with Maya once, a couple months back; I smoothed my model, sculpted some of the geometry, then using the smooth's construction history to reset the divisions back to "1"...however, from that point on, the Sculpt Geometry tool never had any effect on my model, either the unsmoothed version of the model, nor after smoothing it again.

But at least one "pro" is that Maya did calculate the changes that I made on the smoothed model, and adjused the position of my vertices on the low-res model; that goes to show that my plan half-worked :p

I really looks like texturing will be the theme for the second part.

I'm new to maya (still think I'm new although it's been like 4-5 months now) and I'm thinking about entering this. I need to get a good grasp on what exactly steampunk is and try and come up with ideas and see if I can still draw to make a concept sketch, haha.
Any specific time I have to be in by? Of course the sooner the better.

Cheers man, this means that I'll be wraped up in this for ages now!

Mike - Before I start modeling, could you hint to the next part? Just that if its for some sort of animation then I would have to model for that, rarther than for a still.

Cheers

Steve

...now I'm going to take a guess...

In part 2, we'll trade our models off to another competitor, and we'll be texturing eachother's models? user added image
