Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

>Stargate<

Hi!

Ok, so this is my new project: Here's a shot of an early stage of my Stargate. Already about 6 hours of work in it. I am slow, I knowuser added image. Every symbol is modeled, it's not a texture!. I've made them with the help of a true-type-font.

Thank youuser added image

I am still thinking about how I could get this effect. I don't know how to create a circular nurb-surface with these waves. Perhaps I could use the sculpt-surface-tool with a wavy picture? But what would I do if I want to animate it? Take a jpg-picture sequence?
I would be happy about every suggestionuser added image..

Hi!

Yes, good advice! Particles could be really useful for the outburst of the wormhole at the begining. But what I ment with the wavy surface was the effect of the wormhole when it's fully established... I think I also had to use raytracing to get the reflections... mhhh...

Well, I am not absolutely sure, but I think I am going to animate ituser added image. But that will take some time. I have to figure out how to make the wormhole-outblow effect with the particles and the wormhole-surface...

Any suggestions for that task are really welcome!

to create the wave effect you could start by going to the Animation menu set the Deform -> Create NonLinear -> Wave

hope that helps

Its looking really cool! Is that the right amount of cheverons? I thought there were only 8. I could be wrong. The way that the original wormhole blowout effect was done ,was by filming a blast of air shot into a big water tank and then compositing it into the shot. If you or a friend has a video cam ( and a big friggin fish tank)you can do it. Doing it in 3d might be overkill but if you do it you know you have to make a tutorial about it!

Thank you for all hints! The Symbols were made with the help of this (https://home.kendra.com/urania/starga...font_glyph.htm) font. I only deleted a few curves of the created letters, and they were ready for the bevel-plus tooluser added image.

The Chevrons have at least the right rotation, but I am not sure, wether there have to be all 9 at the gate. I modeled after this (https://home.kendra.com/urania/starga...ic_xl-1210.jpg) scheme. There you can see all 9 chevrons. Normaly, in the pictures of the series one can only see the upper 7, the others are mostly covered as the gate sticks in the earth or something like that... If I could just remember the scene in the episode where they dumped the stargate into a sun....

Best Regards

Markuz, who will start his work nowuser added image.
