Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

How to model a bow

Hey guys!
After a long time I started working with maya again.

I tried to model a bow like like you see it in the attachement. Unfortunately I don´t have any idea how to realize it. I started with an polygon bended it so it was a closed circle and then tried to twist it, but in the end it was looking very ugly.

Does anyone has any suggests? Would be nice because I think this couldn´t be that difficult.

Thanks

I had a little play, and this procedure gave me the best results:

Hope it helps!

I personally think Mayaniac's approach works better, but I tried using a curve and extruding a cube along it and it looks just fine, and if you're unfamiliar with polygons, it can work a lot quicker. Smoothing out the curve would definitely bring about a better final product, but for a quick model:

I used the EP Curve Tool (Create>EP Curve Tool) and extruded a face along the curve with about 30 divisions or so.

Hey thanks for your quick replys and efforts.

I tried out both suggestions. But on the first one I got any strange error. Maybe I did anything false:

1. I created a cylinder and deleted the faces on top and bottom. (12 subdivisions)

2. I transformed the cylinder with the scale tool to an oval
deleted six faces on one side and mirrored the other six to
this side

3. here it get´s unclear: I moved the vertices of one last face
on each side to the middle

4. how do you move the vertices to let it still appear symmetric

5. I don´t get it to extrude the faces right. Did you select them
singly?

In the second suggestion I don´t have any idea how to [QOUTE]extruded a face along the curve with about 30[/QOUTE]

Sorry I forgot so much in maya, so much options ....

but thanks in advice

Maybe this will clear things up!

It's a .mb file of the bow.

Hey Mayaniac!

Thanks a lot for your help. I tried to build it another few times and it worked. Don´t know where my failure was. I think something went wrong when I merged them.
Unfortunately I realized that this is not a Möbius Strip
Is there any easy way to create it with maya. I mean it is completely descriped with mathematic expressions but i don´t understand them really?

Thanks
