Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Mental Ray has more option for creasting very realsitic renders, when used correctly. If you are just getting into rendering and such you are probably best off simply using Maya software fpr your renders, you can start to usnderstand teh basics of rendering using then then move onto Mental Ray.

I would always render out as a series of images, never as an .avi, they are huge in size.
