In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Eeek no boleans !!! im definately not a fan of them user added image they mess up the surface and add more geometry to your model and you loose control .. Thats my oppinion anyway user added image

instead, split the surface in the right place, then select the two models and do polygons > combine on them .. Then merge the edges and vertices..

it takes alonger time than a bool, but the result will definately be cleaner !

well, the mode is all one geometry. I just started extruding from from the back part behind the seat to built the inner area of the tyer. I just need to close the gap.

you gotta snap the verts either on top of each other or set the tolerance of merge vert to a higher value in tool setting. and then the merge vert only works if you combined both parts before.

Yeah babyduck is right, might be that the tolerance isn't set right for your scene. Snapping them would take care of it too.
I'd stay away from booleans... they are evil.

Great Spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the person who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express their opinions courageously and honestly.

well the IT in south park is making fun of the "Segway" personal transport which is REALLY cool but wicked expensive $3000 last i checked. Search for it on the internet i'm sure you'll find some pics and info, it can "balance" if you're not already interested......

LOL, yea man.. I definately agree... haha. Booleans in all programs are messy, especially 3ds max!! I like your technique, could you ever make a short video so i further understand what your saying? If not I think I understand, just i could be wrong.

To the "IT"..that is really nice. I really like the model. The tire though could of used some grip user added image. Very cool though! Very cool indeed user added image.
