Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

My model uses....... Medieval Super glue.........hahahaha

From what I understand of medieval construction, they did not use nails or bolts, and most constructions were timber to timber using a tung and groove with a locking pin.

P.S. If you look at the end planks on the construction you will see they are offset and indeed resessed.

But I personally prefer Medieval Super glue bought from the local hardware store which also sells the latest high tech swords and armor.user added image

Composed scene, added clouds, added depth of field, changed a few textures again.

nice depth - i wonder if you could take the specular a little down on the mountain shader (or diffuse ???) so that it would take the shadow from the machine - right now the machine looks like it's floating a little. Also i really like the composition but i'm wondering if there's a way you could show a little more detail of the castle without losing the feeling of depth/distance and clouds in the air?

Nice depth.
The clouds are awsome. ( how did you make them, with paint or particle? )

Particles, with cloud option selected then rotated so the plane is on a slight angle from camera.

one hint on how to place the thing would be not to place the machine, but leave it in place, and higher the ground. this way as you retouch the ground, you can shape it so the trebuchet is leaving a footprint, if you know what i mean user added image

bu anyway, the composition is awesome - i would just reduce the dof a tiny little bit

I think you have a good idea going on here. But the resolution or detail of the ground bump map in the foreground is not sufficient. Increasing the amount of detail there could also help the other problem I'm seeing in this: The scale of the machine. It looks too small.
